Humanitarian Photography and HD Video Stories
Assignment: Uganda is a two-week experience for experienced and emerging documentary photographers and filmmakers who want to develop their skills while covering the humanitarian efforts under way Uganda, Africa. These workshops connect you to some of the leading world relief agencies (NGOs) working in Africa as you document the development, environmental, health, and relief efforts underway in Uganda. You will be learning how to work with these NGOs as you photograph the orphanages, doctors, advocacy groups and AIDS projects in rural villages, and urban areas, as you build your professional portfolio or reel.
Assignment: Uganda is also an opportunity to contributing your images and stories to each NGOs relief efforts. We have been conducting these workshops for the past eight years and each workshop is a deeply personal adventure of discovery as you explore the cultural differences, humanity and the struggle of the people of Uganda. Everyone who comes back from Uganda has been changed either in terms of career or personally, or both.
This is a field-workshop. We provide support in finding stories and gaining access to the NGOs, followed by honest critique of your images and process. There are formal classes, almost daily critiques, field trips and informal gatherings, all providing an opportunity to share your work and research and discuss discoveries with your peers and the Faculty.
Who Should Attend
Mid-career and emerging photographers and filmmakers (working in HD video) who want to dev elope their portfolio, or create a reel, while learning how to work with and for NGOs in a rich humanitarian environment. You must be thoroughly familiar with your camera, digital SLR, or HD video camera.
What to Bring
Filmmakers need to bring their own HD camera and a laptop for storing and editing their work. Photographers need to bring their ouewn digital SLR cameras and a laptop for image storage and editing as well.
